I owe no explanations for my flaws. I don't have to justify my mistakes, my past, or my insecurities. I am growing and learning. Let me live. - Unknown
I'll admit it, I'm not a flawless diamond. When you look at me, there are flecks of dirt beneath the surface - some of them a little bigger and uglier than others.
While I think this is true of most people, I find myself in a challenging position because I am constantly explaining, justifying or making excuses for being who I am. The truth is that my flaws have shaped me into who I am and I shouldn't be ashamed of them.
My flaws are the result of me living and learning on this journey we call life. And a lot of my flaws are what make me a beautiful person. Ok, some people would disagree with that. Because talking at the speed of light isn't always flattering and it definitely isn't something that all people can handle. But it's what I do. Don't believe me? Poll anyone I've ever dated and they will set the record straight.
The truth is that I don't owe anyone an explanation. Because I shouldn't have to apologize or explain why I am the way I am. In fact, the people that I desire to have in my life love/like/tolerate me because they find all of those tiny flaws endearing.
I know this to be a fact. How? Because on those days that I'm not myself I can always count on someone to ask how I'm doing. Am I ok? And those that miss seeing the "real" me simply ask me about my daughter. Why? Because they know it brings me back to my center - as in, a smile on my face and the million-mile-a-minute motor mouth.
So no, I'm not a flawless diamond. But in the right light, I still have the ability to shine. Here's a toast to discovering more and new individuals in my life that will act as beacons of guiding light as this little ship finds her way to harbor.
